RIP John Lennon. The list of sudden and unexpected celebrity deaths is long—Princess Di, Heath Ledger, Kurt Cobain, Marilyn Monroe, and many more. Which one affected you the most on an emotional level?

I've looked through about 180 comments and I'm saddened to find that Tim Russert isn't ANYWHERE on this list. He may not be a 'celebrity' in the music or acting sense, but that man was amazing and political media won't be the same without him. I was in total shock and was bawling about it!

So I wrote something about expecting good news but I had to wait as my facebook status and Ted thought I was pregnant. HAHAH no. That wouldn't be good news at THIS point in my life.

But I DOOOOO have good news now because I got the confirmation from my boss-woman.

ASSOCIATED TOOK ME AS FULL TIME!!!!! YAY!!!!

Not only full-time but they transferred me to the Southtowne Branch which is about ten times bigger than Water St. This is the sort of bank where they routinely get 30k CASH deposits. Like, big deal bank that's one of the best in the city of the nine.

I was on pins and needles all week because of it too. I had been 'bothering' Jackie, my current boss, about really wanting full-time. She understood and asked our DM for a full-time spot at Water St. (which would have been ideal) but he said they couldn't pull it through HR. Then a few people transferred at ST so I thought 'YAY I could be FT' but then HR only approved two partimers. I was a little crushed.

UNTIL

Apparently behind the scenes my Sup Holly was bugging our DM like mad about making a FT position at Southtowne with me in mind. My company is so awesome that the DM then went ABOVE HR to an Exec VP to get the OK for a FT position. While he was driving me to Copps during an emergency yesterday he then told me that he got the approval from the VP and will give me that position and a girl at ST will come to Water St. in my place. Not only that but he said he's going to cross-train me as a personal banker for some things and get me going on learning the daily operations stuff so he can help move me up in the company. DIRECT QUOTE from my DM!!! Holy goodness!!!!

So today Jackie called me to tell me that she worked things out with Karl, my new manager, that I'm going to start Oct 6th so we can finish out the rest of the quarter. As much as I'm excited I'm also a little sad - the Water St. branch is super kooky and fun, and some of my coworkers at OMax don't suck. But really, Associated takes GOOD care of its full-timers. I get a little over three WEEKS of paid time off, a day or two of sick time per month, and my insurance cuts down from 125 a paycheck to SIXTY. Needless to say, I'm excited.

YAAAAAY.

So the first time I took an 一級読解 practice test I shocked myself by scoring about 71% (passing is 70)

And the SECOND time I took one I got 68%, and I thought I bombed it.

Maybe I might do ok on the 読解 part, it's just everything else that scares me :)

Just sent a ridiculously long and complex email about a somewhat ridiculous subject to a ridiculously wonderful and caring person.

Catch the adjective I'm trying to emphasize much?

It felt good to get that all off my chest though.

Yea, now it'll just be interesting to see the response. Because, well, yea

...that LJ exists to fill up all that time during the day I must waste :)

Today has actually been quite good, mostly because hey, it's a Friday YAY. Started off with two random academic things - 1)Got accepted into Order of Omega, a sorority honors society and 2)Discvoered that I had received some PHC award for being one of the five sorority juniors with the highest GPA. Whoa! That's a little shocking to me, but hey, pretty awesome yay :)

Kanji was an interesting talk about religion, and then I wrote out my homework quickly and found Mike in the library. On the way out I discovered a package from the "Easter Bunny" in my mailbox filled with some jellybeans and a Cadbury Egg. Well honestly when he doesn't disguise his handwriting it's pretty darn easy to tell who said Easter Bunny was, haha. Anyway, I gave away most of the jelly beans to my always commotion-filled Japanese class, but ate just enough to give me a pretty massive sugar buzz that lasted until History. The coffee probably helped too ^^*

We watched the end of a pretty horrific movie in History called "Silence" that I don't recommend at all to anyone, because it's bad 70s overacting and ridiculously graphic. Yuck. Be that as it may, it's over now and therefore it means that I am done with school for the weekend yay. Just have to run to Fresco for a Diet Coke and to 7-11 to pick up a bit of sake, because you CAN'T do hanami without sake ;)

Whee!

Killing time makes me very unmotivated to go to class. I woke up this morning, got to school by 11, went to the one class at 12-1. Then I went to the cafeteria and had a slooooowly eaten salad, called the mom, got back here by 2:20 and was distracted from homework by Mike until 3, and I just killed a few more minutes in the computer lab :)

As I have said many many times in the past, if the class I have at 4 weren't as interesting as it is I just don't know what I'd do, hah. Cause man, three hours of doing nothing is pretty darn boring

At least post class I get to go out to dinner with Ruthie, Emm, and Jean - good old girls night out! Too bad we're going to a tabehodai place and I am thoroughly not up for tabehodai, because gross. I suppose I shall peruse the menu to find something ala carte :)

Tomorrow Mike and I are going hanami, which I'm excited for, and then Saturday is Sakai. Apparently Mike's host dad's friend is opening a restaurant out on some island (somewhere by Osaka? eh?) and they're going to the opening and his host dad insisted I come with! What is with all these host families making me do things, hehe?

Ok, allllmost there. Whee

Today went SURPRISINGLY smoothly considering all of the possible Japanese red-tape I might have had to deal with...

Jean and I woke up in time to catch the 830 bus so we could arrive at the City Hall as it opened at 9. Gross. And on my sleep in day, too. We brought our paperwork and I realized that rather than getting a new Alien Registration card they just put my new address on my old one and let it be, so I don't have to go back to pick it up! Yay!

Then it was traveler's check cashing time, which in Japan is a bit of a pain in the butt. But shockingly, Mitsui Sumitomo did it SO quickly that Jean and I were done with both chores by 945ish. Score! We had time to go to Kiddyland where I picked up chocolates in the shape of fish and edamame (they're so weird) to give to certain persons next Tuesday. Hah.

Then we bussed back to school and chilled with Ruthie until they had class, then I had my easy Japanese class and the girls and I had lunch together. Then I walked home with roomie and we stopped at Fresco and I picked up the best assortment of healthy breakfast foods EVER. EVER. Natto included.

Then it was homework and an ep of Densha Otoko and more homework. And I have another lunch date tomorrow, which I was surprised at. This makes lunch with him last Wed, Friday, Monday, and tomorrow. I'm also of the thought that maybe the only reason today wasn't included in this list was that he has class during my lunch hour and vice versa. Still ever so dumbstruck by all this, but hey, awesome.

And back to kanji - I learned the word for non-profit organization today. Hah.

t-minus like, a day and a half until I'm on my hella long flight to Japan.

I've mostly packed everything and done quite well, and granted we're not leaving for the airport hotel until after the Seahawks game starts tomorrow so I've got a lot of time.

We're staying at the hotel because my flight leaves at 930 am Tues, meaning we'd have to get there at least at 730, and monday morning traffic in Seattle means we'd likely have to leave at like, four ^^* Just easier to be staying across the street from the airport methinks.

I'm a little nervous about leaving, but mostly just really happy to get to go back :) I hope everyone has a great spring semester and I will see many of you in the summer - bye bye!

Most awesome of coincidences tonight.

Went with Gospe to go to Tasha's Symphonic Choir concert (yay Tasha singing!) which turned out to also feature the WILLAMETTE choir, meaning I got to see Rachel and Madison! YAY!!!! It made me terribly homesick for Willamette, and so glad I get to go down there on Friday or the little sample of DG just wouldn't be enough. :)

Other than that, today was interesting. Woke up, exercised, went to the Doctor's and discovered I have Reynaud's Syndrome/Disease whatever. It's basically something that screws up the way your blood vessels react to the cold, and making your hands turn lovely shades as mine tend to do. Luckily there's a pill I can take to fix it, so hopefully that'll get better.

Also, I discovered that my stomach problems may be aggravated by another medication I am taking, that no one ever told me about. WHAT? Fuckers! So I stopped that med and hopefully my stomach sensitivity will also go down, we shall see. The fewer pills the better, I say.

Also did some shopping and got a new wallet to go with my new purse (it's got two pockets in the bill area! Yen AND Dollars! I am such a nerd), as well as new bedding because mine is getting grosstastic. Had a lovely dinner at Alderwood prior to the concerting, and now amd sitting around listening to a lovely mix of SMAP, Ayu, and Utada. I'm so obsessed with "Passion" I can't get over it.

Also, tomorrow I get to see Harry Potter again. Joyous! :)

Molly hears: Triangle, duh.
Downloading loads of jpop as we speak. And listening to it as well. YAY. Life is good.

To Willamette people - my train comes in at 637 on Friday, only like Amtrak is EVER on time. I'm guessing 7ish unless some horrid issues - anyone want to meet me at the station? I am such an attention whore, but I want to see you all and it's not like the Salem station is hours away from school, heh.

Also, Hara - get your butt online so I can talk to you about my intended bumming in your room!

Today was a fun shopping day. I got a new purse (Such a brand whore. I'll admit it.) and two new books. Not like I have enough time to read all the books I want, but I can attempt it. Tomorrow I'm taking mom to Ruth Chris' Steak House for her christmas present dinner, I wonder how that'll be. Expensive methinks. Oh well, it'll be an experience.

And now back to listening to "Triangle." I heart you, SMAP! <3

Killing time before I feel like taking a shower, because I am ever so lazy today :) Oh well.

Besides being lazy I have also been rather bored. I hate to say that because well, I'm home and I feel I should be happier being here, but dammit I want to go back to Japan like right now :) The Canada trip was really fun though, we ate at an izakaya and some good Italian restaurants and I got an uber cute scarf from Banana Republic. We also saw some good exhibits at the Victoria and Vancouver Art Museums.

Yesterday I had lunch, dinner, and a movie with Derek. The Producers was hilarious, I was pleasantly surprised. See you in Japan, Derek! Have a good flight (don't drink too much on it :P)

Well, I'm sitting about the house today until I go shopping with mom, but yea. A little bored. And no plans on Saturday now? Tragic. Oh well, I will try and be creative and find something to do. Right ^^*

OH ps to all you Willamette folk I think I will be down there Friday the 13th (wah!) 'til Monday/Tues ish. Haven't bought my tickets yet 'cause I'm being stupid, but yea, should be ok. I look forward to seeing you all :)

Spent the first few minutes of the new year chatting with Kikkun, and finding out Yoshiki's MSN name, so I am supremely happy. Also saw King Kong today, which was really really good. Really. Yay :)

And here is a survey, because well, I haven't filled one out in a long time and what better time than the new year to start?

Happy Holidays everyone! (even though I have not had the chance to see many of you Seattlites yet)

I hope everyone's holidays have gone well, that the prolonged stays with the family aren't driving anyone too crazy. Christmas was actually quite nice today, had a great morning with the mom where I made her breakfast and we just wasted the entire morning puttering around the house and making deviled eggs for dinner tonight at the Peters' and such. Jet lag (see previous entry) didn't help much; didn't get up until 1130. Hah.

Received some wonderful presents - was actually stunned because I thought we were just going into the store to see how MUCH something was then I walked out with it. WHA? But awesome. Mom seemed to like her gifts as well, so woo.

Other than this I am a little sleepy, probably for the same reason Derek seemed to be so tired at dinner. Dang time change. Hope to see you all soon - if anyone is up for a movie there are about a million I want to see so PLEASE call. I'm desperate for movie-age!!

Two more days, don't particularly want to leave. And that's putting it lightly.

In updates - Closing ceremony was horridly depressing but really moving, and I have a few pics uploaded to facebook if anyone wants to see me in a kimono. Had to say my first goodbyes, cry number one.

Sunday I had lunch with Tom and Krystle which was fun (mm sushi with a dessert pizza at la pausa). Tom is awesome and gave me all of Densha Otoko which I am ever so slightly infatuated with, in the way that I tend to get infatuated with Japanese dramas. Hah. Then it was the last dinner with the entire host family (dad works away during the week) so I gave them all their Christmas presents a bit early. Packed up, cried again.

Monday was DISNEYLAND. SO COOL. I forgot how awesome Disneyland at Christmas is, and really having free tickets made the whole thing even better. Except for the fact that Krystle and I froze to death a bit it was a great day. I was slightly disappointed that the Pirates ride hadn't been dubbed though - that would have been awesome. I also ate at the gyoza restaurant for the last time so I'm glad I got to do that.

Today - Got to school early to toss/recycle a bunch of old paperwork and I am meeting everyone for final Kaiten Sushi at Kawagoe at 1230. There'll be like 8 of us so that will be awesome. Then I have to rush home so that I can get my bag picked up and delivered to the airport, then I will probably watch some Densha Otoko until the host mom gets home and I can spend some time with her.

Tomorrow - EVERYONE IS LEAVING OMG I AM GOING TO CRY. Yea, the bus to the airport that I am not riding on but seeing off. Too hard. Then I want to have lunch on nikyan but we'll see if I get over there. Must text Kikkun and Yoshiki to see if they can meet me. Then I will basically pack everything up for the rest of the day and sob like a little baby because it's my last night.

Thursday - Though formerly I thought Midori had work it looks like she is on vacation starting Thursday so she can see me off in the morning. Thank god, I would be so sad if they all left for work and then I had to leave an empty house. I really don't know how I am going to fare on this day because really it will just be horridly depressing. Definitly a `not wearing mascara day` because when I cry that could just look horrid. Leave Narita at 525 ish at night and hopefully will knock myself out with drugs to sleep so when I arrive in Seattle at 930 the same day I wont be too dead. We shall see.

And on that note I should head out to Kawagoe to let the sushi peoples know we have like 8 people coming so they aren't terribly shocked. Lunch rush and all.
